Gabriela Byrne, Chairperson
Gabriela founded Chrysalis Insight Incorporated in 2001 following her own recovery from an addiction to poker machines. A former professional basketball player, she has studied pshycology, nutrition, exercise and meditation and developed her own program to overcome gambling addiction. Her self-help book, the Free Yourself Program was first publiched in 1997 and has sold more than 20,000 copies worldwide. She is a widely sought after public speaker, sharing her experience of poker machine addiction, recovery and innovative methods of teckling this rapidly growing form of addiction.
Gabriela is also an active member of the Interchurch Gaming Taskforce, CAPP (Community Action on Pokie Problems), Know the Odds, Duty of Care and participates as a community representative in working groups of the Responsible Gambling Ministerial Advisory Council.
David Gibbs, Vice Chairperson & Secretary
David is Director of Co-curricular Activities and Exchange Co-ordinator for a Melbourne Grammer School. His passion for community service and hands on skills have been an invaluable support to Chrysalis Insight since David became a member in 2006.
Kerryn Harrington, Treasurer & Public Officer
Kerryn became involved with Chrysalis Insight Incorporated after hearing Gabriela speak at a church function. Although she has not had a personal expeience with gambling addiction, Gabriela's story raised her awareness and interest in this field and led her to volunteer her skills. With 15 years of experience in bookkeeping and company administration she has been maintaining the accounts, budgets and regisers of Chrysalis Insight Inc since meeting Gabriela in late 2001. As the director of a successful bookeeping and software customisation company she enjoys the freedom to be able to dedicate time to work with Chrysalis Insight Inc to assist those recovering from gambling addiction.
Tim Falkiner, Board Member
Tim is a Barrister with Chambers in Melbourne, Victoria. He was formerly the commercial or legal officer with Victorian Casino Control Authority, which was responsible for setting up the legislative framework for the Crown Casino in Melbourne. Tim has studied the historical, mathematical, economic, political, psychological and social aspects of the commercial gambling industry and problem gambling.
Since 1996 Tim has been Chairman of Know the Odds Inc, a charitable educational organization whose goal is through education, to prevent the harmful effects of problem gambling in the community. He joined Chrysalis Insight Inc in 2001 to further assist with community education.
Rev Tim Costello, Patron
Tim Costello is the CEO of World Vision Australia and has long been the voice of social conscience for many Australians, having led debates on issues such as gambling, urban poverty, homelessness, reconciliation and substance abuse. He studied law and education at Monash University before completing a Master in Theology at Melbourne College of Divinity. He has dedicated his life to serving those in need with past positions including Minister of Collins St Baptist Church, Executive Director of Urban Seed (a Christian outreach service), and National President of Baptist Union of Australia.
Tim hs been supporting the work of Chrysalis Insight Inc since it's inception in 2001, not only in name but also through attendances at functions and presentations and involvement as a member of our public fund steering committee. Tim has a passion for raising public awareness and education about gambling.
