3rd Place Connect

This program is the key to connecting people with places and reducing social isolation through an individual matching program, whereby volunteers are matched with individuals recovering from a gambling addiction and provided with opportunities for friendship and personal links to social activities. Participants are encouraged to utilise 3rd Places to establish new community links and safe recreational alternatives to gambling.
  • Training programs
  • Volunteer matching
  • Identifying and matching 3rd Places with clients
  • Long term follow up and evaluation of clients and volunteers

3rd Place CoffeeHub

Is a vision of a mobile 3rd Place which will be recognisable as a safe, recreational facility, travelling to various markets, festivals and street celebrations.

The community will have access to information about gambling and other addictive behaviours in a non-threatening environment.

By returning to the same locations on a regular basis, community members can look forward to a regular outing whilst local volunteers will have ongoing involvement and opportunities to develop their skills.

A professional training program will strengthen skill development for volunteers (those recovering from addiction and/or supporters of our organisation).

This will include:
  • Professional barista training
  • Assistance to complete the accredited ‘food handlers’ certificate
  • Cash handling, problem solving and customer service experience
  • Development of social skills and confidence
Other benefits to the community from this program include:
  • Increased awareness of the potential harm caused by poker machines and other forms of gambling.
  • Access to self-help material and support services in a non-threatening environment.
  • Encouragement of local musicians, entertainers and artists.
  • Involvement of local government, business & community groups

3rd Place Architect

Our aim is to promote 3rd Places around Australia, by branding and marketing pre-existing 3rd Places as well as establishing our own 3rd Place buildings with carefully selected design features and business philosophies to create welcoming, safe and engaging 3rd places.
  • Existing businesses that fit the criteria of a 3rd Place are encouraged to display the 3rd Place symbol at the entrance to their venue
  • 3rd Place venues are offered training and support to maintain their ability to serve as a 3rd Place
  • Careful research and architectural features will combine to create a welcoming environment
  • Town planning aspects will be considered to supplement the architecture
  • Business viability will be established to engage a multi-generational audience
  • Businesses may be franchised to charitable organisations as a fundraising opportunity
